Ideas for Making the Term "Guardian" a Household Word
- Get your city to change the wording in their city ordinances regarding companion animals to “guardian” instead of “owner”. Please contact us at guardian@idausa.org if you are interested in working on this in your community.
- Use the word “guardian” in your everyday language, and suggest it to others when they use the term "owner", explaining why.
- Tell your friends and family about the campaign via social networks, our Guardian Brochure or our Guardian PSA’s.
- Share the Guardian PSA's with the media by email and social networks.
- Ask your local animal welfare organization to adopt the Guardian Campaign and use the guardian language.
- Write letters in response to people/newspapers who use the word animal "owner" suggesting they use animal “guardian” instead.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local paper explaining the purpose of the Guardian Campaign.
- Volunteer at a local shelter and use the term "guardian" in your language.
- Take the Guardian pledge.
- Start a Humane Education program in the local school or with local children teaching them about the Guardian Campaign.
- Volunteer to give humane education/guardian campaign informational talks to schools, community clubs (ie. Girl Scouts) - and/or give your local schools guardian brochures for their teachers to use.

- If you have a blog, consider discussing the purpose of the Guardian Campaign in your writings.
